I'm still sorting, but here's a snapshot of today's e-mail:

Lots of election letters, both for and against the candidates recommended on our Sunday pages. Look for these on our editorial and community opinions pages. And yes, there are two separate elections, to answer one writer, and you have to choose to vote.

Health care -- a few, both for and against.

Several letters on the pilot who crashed into the IRS offices in Austin. Most of them decried the act. Several criticized the linkage of the Austin case with the Tea Party movement.

Stephanie Mueller's column on the property tax drew letters on both sides.

We got some letters on the governor's race, including a criticism that The News is giving too much coverage to the Republican candidates.

So far, it's a pretty even spread of opinion. And, to top it all off, one e-mail informs me that I have received an income tax rebate of 820.50 rupees. I guess I shouldn't spend it all in one place.

I really think there is something wrong with this President. No one wants this government takeover of health care and what does he do? Obama just proposes the same government takeover and plans to push it on Thursday. This trillion dollar proposal is a pathetic plan and will raise costs, lower care, lead to rationing and drive out insurance companies in ten years. This will lead to a maize of government agencies we all know will be a cesspool of waste and fraud.
It is disgraceful that this President is pushing this trumped up issue instead of addressing our national debt or the creation of jobs.
Our family cannot wait until these Democrat know nothings are sent home in November and in 2012.

To greatgran. From Obama:

"if the agenda is essentially for us to adopt the exact same proposals that were in place for eight years leading up to the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression . . . we don't tinker with health care, let the insurance companies do what they want, we don't put in place any insurance reforms, we don't mess with the banks, let them keep on doing what they're doing now because we don't want to stir up Wall Street . .

the result is going to be the same. I don't know why we would expect a different outcome pursuing the exact same policies that got us into this fix in the first place."
------
From Schwarzenegger:

Anyone that says it (the stimulus) hasn’t created a job, they should talk to the 150,000 people that have been getting jobs in California.MORAN: In the private sector?SCHWARZENEGGER: In the private sector and from the public sector. … So I’m happy that we got this money. I’m happy that we have put 150,000 people to work and there will be more people that are put to work because of it.

To Jmac with all due respect:
If you think this massive government takeover is your answer to cost control, boy are going to get the surprise of your life. This is not cost control but government intrusion and will change our very way of life and may just bankrupt this country completely. Our family says NO. We do not want more taxes, the rosy nose of the government forcing us to buy a pathetic basic plan that will not cover squat unless we are fined if we have one that will, the government looking over our shoulders having access to our banking accounts, the national registry of our medical information for any moron to see, the rationing we all know will exist, and the cuts to the elderly who paid faithfully into a system which was robbed before and is going to be robbed again leading to rationing of care and procedures. People will be screaming at the top of their lungs when they actually find out what is really in the President's proposal. These are evil men who planned this all along. Our family will remember this betrayal at the polls.
And I would not believe anything Schwarzenegger would ever utter. California is loosing its tail and of course he would love anything supporting his government jobs. California was a wonderful state but look at it now near bankruptcy. It is hard to feel sorry for people who did this to themselves. I don't.
We need private sector jobs. We need to give tax breaks to small businesses which are the tailbone of this country. And this dumbest of the dumb latest so called government takeover of health care proposal destroys private sector jobs of one sixth of our economy. How clueless is that?
Obama has lied and betrayed us. And this summit is a trap for the Republicans. Republicans have our support to boycott this phony ploy. Just say No to this bad bill.

greatgran:

I suggest that you read and fukky understand the column by Leonard Pitts in this mornings DMN. People that refuse to even discuss facts and only mouth what they believe is true and will not accept anything remotely contrary to their beliefs is the cause on total failure of the American government for the last 10 years.

Congress absolutely refuses to do anything but run for reelection and say absolutely anything to get the vote. Facts and truth were destroyed by hate radio and Ruppert Murdock. The loss of comity by our elected officials is the root problem.

FACT: Without the stimulus America would be in the worst DEPRESSION since 1929. If you have facts to disprove that please respomd.

Sorry my typo. The first sentence should read: fully understand.

Spell check failed again.

" These are evil men who planned this all along."

Earth to greatgran - take off the tin foil hat. Read a little. it does a body good.

But things are looking up. Scott Brown voted with Snowe and two retiring Republicans to break the Republican filibuster against the job's bill.

It's a start. It's about time.
