Blotter: Report: Confrontation at bar led to attack outside

06:51 AM CST on Monday, February 22, 2010

A bump in a crowd turned violent at a local bar early Friday, when two men collided on the way out the door after last call, according to a police report.

One man’s friend told the other man that his friend’s collarbone was broken and to watch where he was going, and that quickly escalated into a verbal argument, the report stated.

Both parties left the area, heading to their vehicles.

Soon afterward, when the injured man and his friends were about to leave in a pickup, the man who had bumped into him and another man pulled up in their vehicle in the 900 block of Fannin Street, got out and started to kick and hit the sides of the truck, the report stated.

The two suspects then opened the driver’s side door and the passenger’s side door, hauled out two male occupants and attempted to punch them, according to the report.

Neither victim was injured.

The suspects then ran, but were soon found at a nearby carwash by responding police officers. Both suspects were arrested on charges of assault and criminal mischief, based on several witness statements, and taken to the city jail.
