12:00 AM CST on Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Dr. Kay Clayton, the Texas Woman’s University provost since July 2008, will step down for health reasons, university officials announced Monday. Clayton begins a medical leave March 1, then plans to retire from the university at the end of August.
Dr. Keith McFarland, retired president of Texas A&M-Commerce, will serve as acting provost beginning March 1, and a nationwide search will begin soon.
In the university announcement, Chancellor Ann Stuart praised Clayton, who earned her doctorate degree in education from TWU, for being a leader who helped prepare the university for its upcoming reaccreditation.
