The young person in question did not change religion through an email. She had changed her religion before she emailed her parents about her decision. Whether or not we agree with her methods or her decision, it may be said with assurance that there are unwilling parents who are incapable of listening to their children. At least, she attempted to communicate with them. Good for her!

I remember a really good divorce quote from Silent Boy (Hayden, 1983): "Adults divorce adults. Children don't divorce parents. And friends don't divorce friends". It was said to a Native American child who was affected by the professional leaving of the author's colleague.
