The DMN's Gerry Fraley answered this Mavericks question during an on-line chat Thursday. On whether he likes the idea of the Mavericks playing a playoff game or games at Cowboys Stadium: They would play an entire season getting comfortable at the AAC, learning the bounces in the floor and familiarizing themselves with the shooting background. They'd sacrifice that competitive advantage for a bigger gate by moving a playoff game to Cowboys Stadium. A good idea...
Folks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area like the Olympics way more than the Mavericks. The 8 to 9 p.m. portion of the NBC's Winter Games -- fueled with gold medal performances by skier Lindsey Vonn and snowboarder Shaun White -- amassed 644,699 D-FW viewers, Ed Bark of Pegasusnews.com reports. "American Idol" was second with 407,178 viewers. Meanwhile, on TXA21, the Dallas Mavericks beat the Phoenix Suns. But the game drew just 67,863 viewers -- almost...
Ira Winderman of NBCSports.com writes the Mavs are one of three big winners in the NBA at the trade deadline. The Cavs and Blazers are the others. Writes Winderman: It's not that Caron Butler is a clearly superior talent to Josh Howard. He's not. It's that Butler is far more reliable, and in the midst of another competitive Western Conference playoff race, that's particularly meaningful. Just as significant was the Mavericks' acquisition of Brendan Haywood...
From Sun-Sentinel.com The Miami Heat received an optimistic progress report Thursday on the status of Dwyane Wade's strained left calf. With swelling down and Wade maintaining full functionality, the team continues to list the guard as day-to-day, although it is almost certain he will not play in the final two stops of this four-game road trip, Friday night against the Memphis Grizzlies and Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks. Wade's injury is the type that can...
Josh Howard played his first game with the Washington Wizards since being traded by the Mavericks, and he smiled as he made his postgame comments. "It meant a lot, coming to a new organization and show them that I want to be here, plus stick it to the Mavs," Howard said after the Wizards beat the Timberwolves 108-99 on Wednesday night.. "I'm happy now, you don't have to worry about me saying nothing else about... February 17, 2010
Though the smart money is on Zydrunas Ilgauskas going back to Cleveland if he is bought out or waived by the Washington Wizards, the Mavericks will give a look to the 7-3 center and perhaps Drew Gooden or any other big man that becomes available after the trade deadline. That may be an indication that Erick Dampier's finger injury could keep him out several weeks. But even so, luring a center won't be easy. The...
For those of you who are Seinfeld geeks, this one's for you. Erick Dampier's mangled middle finger on his right hand was put back together Wednesday morning and he has one of the most regrettable splint and cast gizmos on his hand that you can possibly imagine. If you remember the Seinfeld episode where George is mad at the driver in front of him because he thought the driver made an obscene gesture, then he...
In need of some stress relief during a four-game, five-night stretch, the Mavericks opened a six-pack Wednesday night. Using primarily six players, they found a little happiness in the middle of a tough chunk of the schedule, they scratched out a xxx-xxx victory over the Phoenix Suns, avoiding what would have been their second three-game losing streak in the last nine games. Newcomer Brendan Haywood had a big block of Suns center Robin Lopez, his...
They're up 82-68, which is impressive considering the Suns lead the league in scoring at more than 109 points a game. The reason the Suns are struggling is their 3-of-17 shooting from behind the 3-point arc. The Mavericks have all five starters in double figures and Jason Terry with eight points. Jason Kidd has 16 points and nine assists through three quarters. --Eddie Sefko...
Led by Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd, the Mavericks scored the last 11 points of the first quarter to go ahead 28-23 after one. They held Phoenix to 11-of-29 shooting, including 5-of-16 to close the quarter. Nowitzki scored seven of the 11 points in the end-of-quarter run. The new guys, Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood, also had productive first quarters, combining for eight points and seven rebounds. --Eddie Sefko...
There have been whispers that it will be at least three weeks. But the Mavericks just put out a release that there's no timetable. In sports lingo, that's a euphemism for at least three weeks. --Eddie Sefko...
It's sounding like it's going to be at least three weeks for Erick Dampier to allow his right middle finger to heal to the point where he'll be able to catch a basketball. That's going to be the hard part, putting extreme pressure on that digit won't be easy for at least that long. At this point, that's actually not bad news. He should be 100 percent for the playoffs. --Eddie Sefko...
News of the Washington Wizards trading Antawn Jamison to Cleveland means that one of the best dudes in the league is going to get a serious chance to win a ring. Jamison was only in Dallas for one season, but he remains one of the best players to deal with, even when the Mavericks only were running into him twice a season while he was with the Wiz. The big trade that also involved the...
Coach Rick Carlisle said Erick Dampier will be out for a while and owner Mark Cuban said it likely will be a few weeks before the big center can get back to basketball action. He had surgery to close up the open dislocation of his right middle finger that he suffered Tuesday night at Oklahoma City. Dampier may speak with media members before the night is over. --Eddie Sefko...
Erick Dampier is back in town and his surgery to close up an open dislocation went well in Oklahoma City. The reason the surgery was done up there was that they wanted it done as soon as possible and also didn't want to have Dampier flying while the open wound was still susceptible to infection. Plus, it was just gory. We're hoping to hear from Dampier tonight about what exactly happened to rip his finger... |
