Can I comment without registering?

No, you must be registered at dallasnews.com to comment. If you are not registered and you try to make a comment, you will be prompted to complete a short online registration form.

Can I make a comment anonymously?

No. While you can hide your avatar, you cannot hide your screen name.

How many characters can I use to create my screen name?

Screen names are anywhere from 6 to 36 characters in length and should not represent objectionable phrases or work.

How can I change my screen name?

You cannot change your screen name.

Can I use my own avatar/icon?

Yes. If you have a particular avatar, or icon, which you would like associated with your screen name, go to your profile page (click on your screen name or visit member center). Check the 'upload new image' and then browse for the image you want to use. Avatars on our site are 60 x 60 pixels.

Can I delete my comment after I submit it?

No. Once the submit button has been clicked you cannot delete the comment, so be sure that you're message is relevant and appropriate to the subject.

Are there certain formats and file sizes required for photos/videos I want to upload?

Yes. When you click on a button to upload a photo or video, you'll see a listing at the top of the page showing acceptable file formats and file sizes. If you try to upload an image or video that is the wrong file format or the wrong size, you will receive an error message explaining acceptable formats and sizes and will have an opportunity to correct the problem and re-upload.

Can I delete a photo/video I upload?

No, you will not be able to delete a photo/video after you hit the submit button. Once content is uploaded it is the property of A. H. Belo Corporation and Belo Corp.

I'm having trouble uploading my video/photo. What do I do?

First, check the file type and size. If your file extension is not something we accept, resave your video in an acceptable format and within the size limits. Then re-upload. If you are still having a problem, log out and close your browser. Open a new browser, log back in and try again. How long will my comments, photos or video stay on the site?

Comments will appear with the story for as long as the story is displayed on the Web site. Photos and videos will appear in galleries as long as the galleries are active. All user-submitted content will be archived for a minimum of 18 months.

Can I get copies of photos or video that someone else has uploaded to your site?

No. Photos or videos uploaded to our sites are the property of A. H. Belo Corporation and Belo Corp. and as such are subject to our content copyright agreements.

I don't see my video/photo. How can I find it on your site?

Usually a photo/video will appear in the gallery where you clicked the 'upload' button. If you don't see it, search on your screen name and it should be one of the returned links.

Can I email photos and videos to a friend?

At this time you are only allowed to email videos to a friend.

Can I create my own photo/video gallery?

No, at this time you cannot create your own galleries.

Can I upload photos/videos without registering?

Can I recommend something without registering?

Yes, you do not need to be registered to recommend an article, comment, photo or video.

Can I view photos that were uploaded using the former 'PIX' galleries on dallasnews.com?

Yes, you can get to the former 'PIX' galleries here but you will no longer be able to upload photos there.

How does this feature differ from the community-news site neighborsgo.com?

Stories and photos that appear on neighborsgo.com are reverse-published into 18 weekly neighborsgo print editions that appear every Saturday. Photos, comments and videos that appear on dallasnews.com, while they may appear in print, generally will not.

Why can't I see any user-submitted content in my Internet Explorer 6 Browser?

The security setting in Internet Explorer 6 may prevent you from viewing the user-sumitted content. To correct the problem, follow these steps:

  • Select Tools / Internet Options from the menu
  • Click on the "Security Tab"
  • While "Internet" is highlighted (should be highlighted by default), click on the "Custom Level button on the bottom of the window
  • Scroll down to "Miscellaneous" and enable the following option "Navigate sub-frames across different domains"
