Shutter Island
There are long sequences in Shutter Island that smack of half-baked genre loopiness, weighed down with the kind of rambling explanations and plot exposition that you might find in a bad detective novel. These moments seem designed to make us feel as confused and frustrated as the short-tempered federal marshal (Leonardo DiCaprio) in charge of investigating an inexplicable escape at a mental hospital for the criminally insane.
