Voncille Howard

Voncille Howard was the third child born to Emmitt and Minnie ‘Butler’ Huey on June 21, 1926 in Cooke County Texas. If you knew Voncille, she was quite eager to share to the world that her birthday was always the longest day of the year. A day that was perfect for her because she brought so much sunshine to so many people. She had a smile as big as the state of Texas. There was never a day when she wasn’t smiling or laughing about something.A laugh so contagious that her friends knew she was coming even before she walked into the room. She was truly the life of the party even through her darkest days.

She married Edmund Howard on August 29, 1944, a marriage that lasted well over 65 years. It took 16 years of marriage before she was blessed with her precious son Shawn.A son she always lovingly referred to as ‘Shawnie Ronnie’, even in her final days. She was blessed with the love of her life on February 8, 1988 when her granddaughter Meagan LeighAnne made her entrance into the world.Voncille went above and beyond the role of just being a grandmother; she was a grandma who truly enjoyed every minute she could spend with her granddaughter.

Voncille was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton for more than 50 years, and was a member of the Altar Society and St. Francis Circle where she made many lifelong friends. She was most recently a parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen, Texas. Besides her sweet smile, she was one of the most caring and loving individuals you would ever meet. If you EVER needed anything she was always there. She would do anything for anyone. And she showed her love by sharing her time and her great cooking ability with everyone blessed to have met her. There was never a time when you would enter her home and she was not offering you something she baked or cooked, and of course, you were never permitted to say ‘no thank you’.No was just not in her vocabulary. It has been stated that “Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw in later life what you have deposited along the way.”One of the toughest parts of her latter days was allowing for others to do for her what she did for so many. But in typical Voncille style, every kind gesture others did was met with a smile and a little giggle. She was truly an angel that will be watching over all of us who were so blessed to have known her.

Voncille is survived by her husband E.L. Howard of Allen, Texas, her son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Nancy, and her precious granddaughter Meagan. Other survivors include her brothers Bill and Bob Huey, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Frances. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Century Hospice in Dallas, or a charity of your choice.
