IRVING – Could the Cowboys be heading back to Oxnard, Calif., for at least part of training camp?

According to sources, the team has had discussions with Oxnard city officials about having a portion of camp there this summer. Training camp typically runs from late July through the middle of August, but the exact dates for this year are not known yet.

The Cowboys declined comment Thursday.

Part of the team's decision could hinge on whether the Cowboys are selected to play in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 8 in Canton, Ohio, which would mean an earlier start to training camp.

The Cowboys last played in the Hall of Fame Game in 1999, but with Emmitt Smith set to be inducted this summer, Jerry Jones has expressed an interest in taking part in the first game of the preseason.

The last time the Cowboys had training camp in Oxnard was in 2008 because of a scheduling conflict at the Alamodome. At the time, Jones said he would not mind splitting camp in two locations, like the team did in 2001.

The Cowboys have a deal through 2011 with the city of San Antonio to have training camp at the Alamodome. San Antonio prefers to have camp last between 14-16 days, but there is no minimum required length of stay.
