With a staff of three, TXCN.com became the online home of Texas Cable News in November 2000. On Jan. 1, 1999, parent company Belo Corp. launched TXCN, the company's fourth cable news venture.

"Since TXCN was the only cable television station of its kind, TXCN.com was the only Web site of its kind," said Wes Williams, TXCN.com's first Web site manager and now director of Site Services for Belo Interactive.

The Web site took on the same daunting task as its successful television partner -- covering the state of Texas 24/7 -- by featuring news from all regions of the state and video clips direct from Texas Cable News' sister stations across the region.

The Web site first demonstrated its breaking-news abilities in December 2000 when a band of seven dangerous inmates escaped from a Texas prison, sparking a manhunt that gained national attention. The site was continually updated with descriptions of the fugitives, video reports and news of the group's crimes while on the run.

Breaking news again dominated TXCN.com when massive flooding struck the Houston area in 2001. Many Texans used the TXCN.com message boards to locate missing friends and relatives while Texas Cable News meteorologists and news anchors fielded e-mail questions directly from the site.

Today, TXCN.com remains devoted to statewide news coverage and showcasing the talents of the Texas Cable News crew.

TXCN.com is part of Belo Interactive's Dallas Web operation, which serves from a central newsroom Web sites for TXCN, The Dallas Morning News (DallasNews.com), WFAA-TV (WFAA.com) and The Denton Record-Chronicle (DentonRC.com). GuideLive.com, an entertainment news and information site, is also produced by the consolidated Web operation.
