Blotter: Man reports assault, robbery at gas station

08:27 AM CST on Thursday, February 18, 2010

A man reported to Denton police that three men assaulted him and took his wallet, which contained a driver’s license, Social Security card and as much as $6,000.

The incident occurred at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a gas station in the 100 block of North Bonnie Brae Street, according to the report.

The victim said that he had exited his vehicle to get gas when another vehicle pulled in adjacent to him. A man got out of that vehicle, the victim said, and pointed a small-caliber revolver at him.

Two other men got out of the other vehicle, the victim told officers, and the man with the gun said he had “cut him off.” A fight then broke out, according to the report.

The victim told officers that he grabbed the pistol and pointed it away from himself before being struck with a blunt object.

The victim said he later noticed that his wallet was missing. The victim told police that the wallet contained money that he had planned to use to move out of state.

Officers contacted the owner of the gas station, who said he did not see the altercation. The owner said he found it was unusual that no one witnessed the assault or brought it to his attention, considering the time of day and the high volume of people entering the store. The police report noted that there were no cameras on the building’s exterior to catch the assault on video.
