Gov. Togiola announces Coulter and Katina selected on the World team;
Team USA vs The World on Jan. 30th in Florida

(UTULEI) – Governor Togiola Tulafono today was informed of the final selection of the 2010 Junior National Football Team and World Team rosters as it was formally announced by USA Football, the sport’s national governing body on youth and amateur levels.

The teams will compete in USA Football's “Team USA vs. The World” game in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on January 30th during the NFL Pro Bowl Week. The game matches USA Football's 2010 Junior National Team - 45 of the country's top high school seniors - against a “World” team composed of 45 of the best players aged 19 and under from outside the United States spanning eight countries on four continents.

Governor Togiola said American Samoa will be represented on the World team by Beck Coulter and Tavita Katina. Both players are 6’ 2” – 240 pound linebackers. Coulter played at Trinity Community College in Texas and Katina at Marist High School in Leone.

“This official announcement rides on the wave of a very successful Samoa Bowl 7 and is a wonderful way to continue the new year celebration with our representation on the World squad,” said Governor Togiola. “Not only will Beck and Tavita experience the play of top seniors of the nation, they will play along side the best of the world on the World team from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Sweden.”

Governor Togiola said Peter Tos, who coached the Australia team last weekend at Samoa Bowl VII, is part of the coaching staff for the World team.

Governor Togiola said the Team USA vs The World game is sanctioned by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) and has been deemed an official NFL Pro Bowl Week event. The January 30th contest will follow the AFC and NFC All-Star practices at Lockhart Stadium.

“This is very exciting for American Samoa, especially for Beck and Tavita and the incredible experience that they will gain through this game,” said Governor Togiola. “It’s no longer just a US game anymore; the world is playing American football and will converge on South Florida in three weeks with identical passion for the game. And this adds another opportunity to aim for every year for our young people.”

Beck Coulter is the son of Mr. Bob and Mrs. Lima Coulter of Leone; Tavita Katina is a senior at Kanana Fou High School, and played football at Fa’asao Marist High School. He is the son of Mr. David and Mrs. Debbie Katina of Leone, Vaitogi and Waipahu, Hawaii.
