2012 Chemical Sector Security Summit

More than 460 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) national and international partners from around the globe gathered in Baltimore in July for the sixth annual Chemical Sector Security Summit.  The event is an annual forum for DHS and its partners in the public and private sector to share information, highlight best practices, and discuss ways to enhance collaboration in order to build a safe and more resilient Chemical Sector.

Deputy Secretary Suzanne Spaulding welcomed the attendees and introduced Under Secretary Rand Beers who presented the keynote address.  Under Secretary Beers thanked the Chemical Sector Coordinating Council for co-sponsoring the Summit and commended industry for its efforts to enhance security, and also highlighted some of the voluntary Chemical Sector Specific Agency programs as well as progress from the Chemical Facility Anti-terrorism Standard (CFATS) program.

The 2012 Chemical Sector Security Summit had a vast array of session topics including highlights of DHS Voluntary Programs and Resources, an  Ammonium Nitrate Update, Theft and Diversion, Securing the Global Supply Chain, Cybersecurity, Suspicious Activity Reporting, and Personnel Surety, to name a few.
