I packed the 5Dmk2 and of course the Brand Spanking New 1Dmk4.

The pressure was on on two levels. One to shoot some nice footage for the owners of True North and Two to do justice to Canon's new super camera. Unfortunately no one told the weather to play ball and it was a dull grey dreary few days in Sydney.

Of course this is great for even light but if your trying to sell beds on boats blue sky wins out everytime. I alternated between the two camera's so I have more footage from this trip but I wanted to show only 1D footage in this edit.

I couldn't really distinguish between the footage of
the two cameras but noticed that the 1Dmk4 footage looked a little softer than the 5D. Maybe it was due to a smaller sensor and shooting 24p. Don't really know but it made me want to favor the 5D more.

The low light capabilities seemed no better than the 5D and as soon as I see noise in my footage I tend not to push the ISO anymore. At around 400 ISO on both cameras the noise to me became unacceptable but a proper test with both cameras in a studio set up would tell the story better.

Would I buy a 1Dmk4 over a 5Dmk2 if it was just to shoot video? Probably not. This was not a true opportunity to test the camera as I had a job to do and stuffing around was not an option. I'll get another chance with this camera in the next few days so maybe I'll set up some better tests.

Enjoy this for what it is. It's not my best work but at least those of you who are looking at this camera may have a better informed decision if considering buying one.

Gear used included 1Dmk4, 5Dmk2, Canon lenses TS-E 17mm f/4, 24mm f1.4, 85mm f/1.2, 400mm f/5.6, Filters etc etc......

Read more info at christianfletcher.wordpress.com

Music courtesy of Nine Inch Nails, "The Frail", Just Like You Imagined" awesome music.

Cast: Michael Fletcher
tag:vimeo,2010-01-05:clip8549391 Michael Fletcher 1Dmk4 Footage From Sydney New Years Eve 2009 1Dmk4, 5D, 5Dmk2, 1D, Canon, Mike Fletcher, Michael, Christian, Sydney Harbour, Australia, New Years Eve, Fireworks, boats, True North, Opera house, bridge, river, Cruise boat, light show, sky Warpaint - Stars Mon, 04 Jan 2010 19:48:24 -0500 http://vimeo.com/channels/hd#6989227 Adam Harding

Official music video for "Stars" by Warpaint, taken from the Exquisite Corpse EP (Manimal Vinyl).

Filmed in the ashes of the Angeles National Forest.

Shot by Adam Harding, edited and directed by Burke Roberts and Adam Harding © 2009

Cast: Adam Harding, Burke Roberts
tag:vimeo,2010-01-04:clip6989227 Adam Harding Burke Roberts Warpaint - Stars Warpaint, Stars, Exquisite Corpse, Manimal Vinyl, Jenny Lee Lindberg, Theresa Wayman, Emily Kokal, Shannyn Sossamon, Angeles National Forest, Adam Harding, Burke Roberts E.T.A. by JUNK Mon, 04 Jan 2010 19:43:01 -0500 http://vimeo.com/channels/hd#1165693 Henrik Bjerregaard Clausen

Marvin has the most boring job in the universe - but all is not as it seems...

720P HD Version + more info available at our website: junkworks.org/

Director: Henrik Bjerregaard Clausen
Modelling & Character animation: Søren Andersen & Michael la-Cour
Original Music & Sound Editing: Rasmus Kudahl Kaae Munch
Production: JUNK

Originally premiered at BreakPoint '08 in Bingen, Germany where it won the 1st prize in the animation competition.

Cast: Henrik Bjerregaard Clausen
tag:vimeo,2010-01-04:clip1165693 Henrik Bjerregaard Clausen E.T.A. by JUNK ETA, E.T.A, JUNK, 3D, CG, Animation, Short, Film, Humor, Scifi, Space, Alien One year in 120 seconds Mon, 04 Jan 2010 19:21:22 -0500 http://vimeo.com/channels/hd#8540978 Eirik Solheim

The whole of 2009 in a special "video timelapse". To kick off the contest, Canon asked me to interpret what story I saw beyond the still, and to tell that story with the new Canon EOS 7D. My short film will be the first chapter of seven, each ending with a still photograph for the next aspiring filmmaker to interpret. Posing the question to everyone, what do you see beyond the still?

Watch my short film "The Cabbie" here vimeo.com/8341236 and the contest will begin January 15th. Using exactly fifty percent
each, their separate personalities are kept intact and following the theory, being either left- or rightbrained, Larry and Rachel are complete opposites. They have a hard time being stuck together with their counterpart, but not only do they hate each other, their abnormality also makes them dislikable to the people around them, leaving them with a melancholy life of bullying and parental neglect.
One thing the couple shares though is a common hatred and a longing for revenge.
The opportunity arrives when they find out that using the whole brain at once might give them
supernatural powers that can help rid them of their enemies. But the tragic lesson is learned: Being
so opposite their team work is doomed to go terribly wrong.

The Script
I've had the idea for this story for a couple of years before I came to the European Film College
(EFC). I've always been very interested in how the brain works and how intelligence can be
categorized between individuals and at the time I had recently read what is now my favourite book,
The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and other stories by my number one idol Tim Burton.
Influenced by the style of this book, mixed with philosophies of left- and right-brained theories, the
characters of Larry and Rachel came to me out of thin air.

I drew my first sketch of the characters and played around with some rhymes but didn't get much
further at the time. I've always had a small dream of doing stop motion, so it wasn't until the
opportunity arose at the school that I decided to take up the idea once again. Eventually I submitted
it for the Final Projects and was extremely happy when it got chosen amongst the around seventy
scripts submitted.
Today the theories are quite outdated, but I decided that this wasn't supposed to be a story of realism afterall. The concept worked brilliantly though: From this very black and white way of looking at the world, the personalities of Larry and Rachel were strictly set from the beginning and it was easy to figure out how each of them would think in any given situation. The plot came from the idea of Larry and Rachel joining forces to get revenge on the people who had treated them badly whilst growing up. By mixing brainwaves Larry and Rachel could get supernatural powers. Knowing how opposite they are though, the ending was just as clear to me from the beginning.
I enjoyed writing this script and hope to write many more just like it. Stylistically it's very
influenced by the works of Tim Burton and even Edaward Gorey who inspired him. I regard this
project as the first step on my way to finding my own unique style; a mix of all the details I love so.

The production
For four weeks we worked and lived in the common room of the Blue House at the EFC and hardly
saw the sunshine that was right outside the huge black curtain that was to be constantly closed for
light continuity reasons. A total of twenty sets of hands pitched in, all contributing with a great dose
of creativity. Some would merely join us for an afternoon of propmaking when they had free time
from other projects, others were full time members which gave us a core crew of seven people who
worked from 9 am to 11pm every day.
The film was made as one of the 16 Final Projects to culminate our school year at the EFC – being
the only animation film.
This film is definitely the result of an incredible effort and most importantly: Great management.
Because of a cool overview and control we managed to keep the deadline. There were many
challenges along the way, but they were always solved with creativity and hard work.
I feel extremely fortunate to have worked with such a hardworking bunch of people who not only
transferred my script and drawings to an exact replica of what I had envisioned in my mind, but
always added such a fine dose of humor and detail.

Written by Sally A.
