Thesis and Dissertation Awards

PlaqueEach year, the University of North Texas’s College of Education reviews the past year's best theses and dissertations and awards two top honors. This year the dissertation award went to Dr. Peggy Ceballos (Ph.D. '08), a graduate of the Counseling and Higher Education (CHE) program. Her major professor was Dr. Sue Bratton. The thesis award went to Brian White (MS '08), a graduate of the Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation (KHPR) program whose major professor was Dr. Simon Driver.

What you should know about the flu

Health officials predict increased flu cases this fall, including of H1N1 (swine) flu, so an upswing in the number of flu cases is also anticipated within the UNT community. Right now there is no indication that the effects of any flu strain, including H1N1, will be unusually severe, but we will keep you informed if this changes. It’s important that you know what to do if you think you may have the flu and steps you can take to help avoid getting the flu.

Results! LogoWelcome to the continuation of our newsletter, Results!.  The 2008 - 2009 year was a successful one for us, much of it due to friends like you! We received over $2 million in gifts this year with commitments of over $1 million for next.  External funding was over $12 million, of which $6 million was new.  Gifts are extremely valuable but particularly so because they benefit our students.

Teacher Education and Administration Faculty Secure $19,000 Grant

Well done Drs. Mary Harris, Jimmy Byrd, and Jeanne Tunks from the Department of Teacher Education and Administration on securing a grant for $19,000 from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The $19,000 is UNT's portion of a larger grant to Stephen F. Austin University for the Texas Educational Research Center for Educator Preparation (TERCEP). SFA and UNT along with other participating institutions (Lamar University, Texas Tech University, and University of Texas at El Paso) are engaged in a research study about the factors affecting hard to staff schools.

Higher Education Program Faculty Awarded $148,000 Grant

We are very happy to announce the awarding of a $148,000 grant to Drs. Marc Cutright, Bonita Jacobs, Amy Fann, and Beverly Bower all of the Higher Education Program in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education.
