Visitors (non-UNT users)

 Reference/Help Services

Reference services are available to any person who comes into the library or calls on the phone. We also offer electronic reference services using chat room technology and e-mail through our Ask A Librarian services. We ask that questions from non-UNT affiliated users be limited to those questions about resources unique to the University.

Borrowing Services

Members of the Denton County community and holders of courtesy cards, including the TexShare card may check materials out from UNT. Please see Circulation Information for Visitors for details.

Electronic Resources

The UNT Online Catalog is available to anyone with access to the Internet. All electronic resources that UNT has paid subscriptions to are available to anyone who wishes to physically come to the Library. Licensing restrictions prevent us from allowing remote access to these electronic resources if you are not currently affiliated with the University of North Texas.

Photocopying and Printing

Self-service photocopying and printing are available to anyone in the library. However, within the library, printing is only available from electronic databases and the Internet. It is not possible to print text-based documents such as word documents on library printers.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

UNT responds to interlibrary loan requests. If you would like to request materials owned by UNT, please inquire at your local library's interlibrary loan department. Interlibrary loan services initiated at UNT are only available to UNT faculty/staff and currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students. Courtesy Cards are not accepted for interlibrary loan requests.

Government Documents

As a U.S. Federal and Texas State Depository Library, the Government Documents department at the UNT Libraries is available to the UNT and Denton communities and the general public.

All government publications are available for use in the library building. A picture ID (driver's license or passport, etc.) may be required to sign out certain reserve materials for photocopying. Some electronic materials may need to be installed on our computers before use. It is recommended that you call the Service Desk at (940) 565-2870, 24 hours in advance, to find out if the electronic materials you need are available for use.

Though the Government Documents department is located in Willis Library, on the 3rd floor, it does have different hours than the rest of the library.

Microforms Department

The Microforms Department is located on the Lower Level of Willis Library and contains the largest microform collection in the North Texas region, with well over two million items. It has regular service desk hours. Photocopying is also available.

U.S. and Texas population census schedules are located here as well as substantial runs of several local and national newspapers.

Please consult the Libraries' Online Catalog for titles and holdings contained in the General Microforms Collection. A finding aid to the collection, the Goldmine Project, is accessible on-line.

University Archives

The Archives, located on the 4th floor of the Willis Library,  is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Access to information in the Archives is governed by federal law, the Texas Open Records Act, and contractual agreement with donors. Material housed in the Archives does not circulate and must be used in the reading room. The Archives may be reached at (940) 565-2766.

The four main divisions of the University Archives are:
