FORT WORTH GRADUATE TO LEAD STATE ASSOCIATION

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Rodney M. Wiseman, D.O., will be named president of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) during the association’s 100th Convention and Scientific Seminar being held in Dallas, Texas, June 17-20. Dr. Wiseman will serve a one-year term as president of the more than 2,000-member professional organization.

Dr. Wiseman is a 1978 graduate of the University of North Texas Health Science Center’s Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM). A Houston native, he received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Houston. He serves as an associate professor of family medicine at the UNT Health Science Center.

"We are proud to have another of TCOM’s alums serve in this important role," said David M. Richards, D.O., president of the UNT Health Science Center. "Dr. Wiseman is the second TCOM graduate to be elected president of TOMA, and he will provide steady and firm leadership as TOMA continues to build on its foundation."

Part of Dr. Wiseman’s goals as TOMA president include recruiting new members within Texas and continuing to cooperate with the Texas chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and the UNT Health Science Center to provide quality continuing medical education programs.

"By providing additional benefits and resources for TOMA members, we can improve member and district relations and our role in the growth and development of Texas medicine,"

Dr. Wiseman said. "Since this is the 100th anniversary of TOMA, and the year of the American Osteopathic Association’s Unity Campaign, we will also be working closely to support those important efforts."

Dr. Wiseman is a family practitioner at his private practice in Whitehouse, Texas. He has served various roles within TOMA District III since 1981, and served on TOMA’s Board of Trustees since 1986. He is also active with the state and national chapters of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, the Texas Medical Foundation and the Texas Association of Public Health Officials, and is a director on the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Alumni Association Board of Directors. He was also appointed by the governor to the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners District Review Committee in 1997 and continues in that role.

In his community, Dr. Wiseman serves as a team sports physician, as well as medical director of Oakbrook Nursing Health Care Center in Whitehouse and Community Access, a mental health mental retardation services facility.
