UNT HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER RESEARCH FORUM TARGETS AGING FINDINGS Public Invited to Attend March 29 Event
FORT WORTH - Texas – The UNT Health Science Center’s eighth annual Research Appreciation Day is March 29 on the center’s Fort Worth Cultural District campus. More than 100 research projects will be presented, including research on Alzheimer’s disease, eye disease, cancer, public health and heart disease. The investigators will be on hand to share their research findings. The day-long event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Gerald Cagle, senior vice president for research and development at Alcon Laboratories, Inc., will present the keynote address at 11:30 a.m. in the health science center’s George Luibel, D.O. Hall. Dr. Cagle will speak on the benefits and difficulties of academia industry collaboration from the industry point of view.
Research Appreciation Day is an annual opportunity for health science center students, faculty and staff to share research results, encourage potential joint research projects and enhance the public’s knowledge of the research conducted at the health science center. Other investigative efforts that will be presented March 29 relate to:
- Development of screening tools to determine a person’s likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease
- How cholesterol levels are elevated in the body and how to better control cholesterol to reduce heart disease
- Blood pressure control in patients with hypertension and heart failure
- How natural killer cells can be used to fight cancer
- Attitudes and beliefs of post-menopausal Mexican-American females towards osteoporosis and hormone replacement therapy
- Study of heart enlargement and how gene therapy can control this disease
- How to mimic the activities of cells involved in the cause of glaucoma and blindness
The UNT Health Science Center is located at 3500 Camp Bowie Boulevard in Fort Worth’s Cultural District, and free parking is available in the health science center’s Lot A on Clifton Road, off Camp Bowie Blvd. See Research Appreciation Day Schedule of activities attached.
