FISCHBACH JOINS HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER IN EPIDEMIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

FischbachLori.jpg Lori Fischbach, MPH, PhD, joined the University of North Texas Health Science Center’s School of Public Health faculty as an assistant professor of epidemiology.

Dr. Fischbach currently focuses her research on helicobacter pylori and its role in gastric cancer. She is involved in two cohort studies—one examining the natural history of helicobacter pylori in children along the U.S. and Mexico border, and one that aims to identify the initiators and promoters of the pre-cancerous process leading to stomach cancer in a high-risk population of people in Colombia.

Prior to her arrival at the health science center, Dr. Fischbach completed a one-year post-doctoral study position at the Arizona Cancer Center in Tuscon before joining the faculty at the University of Texas’ School of Public Health on the Dallas campus where she was an assistant professor for 5 ½ years.

Dr. Fischbach currently serves as a member of the Canadian Helicobacter Study Group. In 2003, she was the keynote speaker at the group’s annual meeting in Canada.

Dr. Fischbach earned her bachelor’s degree in nutritional sciences from the University of Arizona, her master and doctorate in public health from the School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles.

A native of southern California, she currently resides in Grapevine with her husband and two children.
