Steven Hill selected to lead UNT compliance program

DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Steven A. Hill will begin serving as the University of North Texas's new Director of Institutional Compliance Dec. 3, 2007.

As the chief compliance officer for UNT and the UNT System, he will be responsible for creating and implementing a university and system compliance program by developing and executing compliance assessment tools, monitoring procedures and educational programs. In addition, Hill will be responsible for recommending policy initiatives to facilitate compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations, and university and system policies. He also will manage UNT's compliance office, which reports directly to President Gretchen M. Bataille.

"Because issues of compliance are critical to our university's future success, we sought to find an experienced professional with a record of implementing programs for improvement through collaboration and innovation," said Bataille. "The breadth of Steven's experience and his clear record of success make him a perfect fit for leading the future direction of compliance at UNT."

"I am joining UNT from an excellent organization and am extremely happy to be a part of the UNT family," Hill said. "I plan to collaborate with UNT management using industry best practices to establish a model universitywide compliance program and to develop increased awareness about how the compliance function can and will benefit each member of our university. I am happy to be a part of the Mean Green family and I look forward to the challenges of leading the future direction of compliance at UNT."

Currently, Hill serves as the institutional compliance coordinator for the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. In that position, which he began in 2000, he is jointly responsible for developing and implementing effective monitoring processes and training for high-risk areas, addressing complaints, concerns and inquiries in coordination with legal counsel, and conducting investigations and operational reviews to resolve compliance challenges.

Prior to working in academia, he spent more than 20 years in various leadership roles focused on compliance, audit, internal control, quality assurance, accounting and finance operations in positions with the U.S. Army Finance Corps in the United States, culminating with his last assignment at 13th Finance Group with III Corps & Fort Hood, Texas, and a variety of positions throughout Europe, as well as two years with Ultramar Diamond Shamrock, now Valero's corporate headquarters in San Antonio.

Hill earned his bachelor's degree and a dual M.B.A. degree in international management and human resources from Wayland Baptist University.
