UNT System leaps forward to unveil branding for the Dallas Campus and for UNT Dallas

DALLAS (UNT), Texas -- When the University of North Texas at Dallas emerges as the first full-fledged, public university inside the Dallas city limits in the next few years, it will already have its own individual colors, its own mascot, its own word marks and a permanent campus in southern Dallas.

For opportunities to display its true colors, UNT Dallas has selected gold and blue (PMS 123 and PMS 285). The new mascot is a leaping, roaring Jaguar.

The unveiling came today at a special Leap Forward! branding event hosted by Lee F. Jackson, chancellor of the UNT System, and Dr. John Price, UNT vice provost for the Dallas Campus.

The UNT Dallas Campus will adopt the new brand and images even though it will continue to serve its students through the degree-granting authority of UNT in Denton until the new University of North Texas at Dallas is established.

During the ceremony, Jackson presided over the first unveiling of the new branding scheme for faculty and staff of UNT Dallas Campus and a group of more than 100 branding-project participants who deliberated over dozens of potential mascots, a palate of color schemes and many typographic options.

The new graphics will be featured on all UNT Dallas Campus publications, letterheads, business cards, signage, advertising and clothing.

In presenting the new marks and images, Jackson said, "These dynamic branding marks represent the visualization and verbalization of how this vital and growing campus will represent itself.

"The brand for UNT Dallas represents a unique identity for this campus that will become a separate university in the years ahead. The marks are designed to encourage public awareness of the unique qualities of the institution."

As soon as enrollment at the Dallas Campus reaches the equivalent of 1,000 full-time students, the UNT System can begin the process of establishing the new university. Dallas Campus enrollment has grown substantially in recent years. Last fall, enrollment increased by more than seven percent and full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment was up by more than 10 percent and in fall 2005, enrollment; and in fall 2005 the headcount enrollment jumped up more than 20 percent over the previous year and FTE enrollment was up more than 30 percent.

The UNT System seeks to open UNT at Dallas as an accredited university by fall 2009.
