Early Alert - EARS

Mental Health

The Early Alert Response System, known as EARS, launched in September 2008 with the primary purpose to identify students in need of help with academics, college life, or personal issues. Students may be self-referred or may be referred by a faculty member. UNT faculty can electronically submit a student who may be in need of assistance either personally or academically. Professors can access EARS through their online class roll sheets found at MyUNT. By clicking on the Early Alert icon and completing an on-line form, a professor can identify their concerns for a student.

The Academic Readiness staff reviews each alert and arranges for a follow-up with students, often within 24 hours. The Housing staff can offer information about student support services for those students living in residence halls. Course interventionists follow up with off-campus students. Then depending on the circumstances, students are advised to meet with their professors, to get help with class curriculum, or are referred to academic advising, money management, the health and wellness center or other appropriate student services.
