Building Representatives

Information for Faculty & Staff

The Facilities Department has created a building representative program. This program identifies individuals in charge of every university facility. The building representative works in partnership with police, maintenance, risk management, and safety personnel to identify and resolve security and safety issues. Some responsibilities associated with the mentioned topics are:

  1. Report all building maintenance problems, especially those that pose a safety or security problem, to the Facilities Department, phone 940-565-2700 or Facilities website, www.facilities.unt.edu, on a timely basis.
  2. Report to the Safety Office anything noticed in or around the building that could be hazardous to the health and well-being of the occupants.
  3. Distribute memorandums from the Safety Office or University Police concerning procedures to be followed in the case of an emergency.
  4. Insure that each building has a security system which protects both the occupants and the contents, but also permits the necessary flexibility for appropriate use.
  5. Encourage prompt reporting of thefts, criminal incidents and noticeable crime problems and opportunities to the University Police, non-emergency phone 940-565-3000 or 9-1-1 for an emergency event.
  6. Determine and coordinate after hour needs of individual employees and students as they relate to the needs of the University as a whole.
  7. Distribute Building Access Permits to employees and students for access to the building after hours in building that participate in the Building Access Program.
  8. Encourage reporting of weekend and after hours maintenance problems to Facilities stand-by maintenance personnel.
  9. Coordinate with Facilities all utility requirements during holiday shutdowns.

A list of building representatives for university facilities is available at rms.unt.edu/reps.php.
