UNT UNT Dallas adds key staff for transition

DALLAS – The University of North Texas UNT Dallas has filled two more key staff positions on its leadership team to help prepare the school to become an independent university.

Fred K. Dietz has been selected the school’s first director of admissions and enrollment management. He currently serves as executive director of enrollment management at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. He will join the staff May 18.

Dietz brings more than 23 years of experience in higher education enrollment management and academic affairs to his position. He earned a master’s degree in guidance counseling and administration from Jacksonville University in Florida.

“I am excited at the opportunity to come to UNT Dallas,” Dietz said. “The chance to help lay the foundation for a new Texas University is an incredible opportunity."

Tina Lee Collins becomes the school’s first registrar June 1 and will be responsible for class scheduling and registration. She currently serves as director of records and registration at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Collins has worked in higher education for 13 years and is pursuing a doctorate in higher education administration from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

“I am honored to have been selected as the first Registrar of the University of North Texas UNT Dallas and I look forward to serving students and working with the excellent faculty and staff,” said Collins.
John Ellis Price, vice chancellor of the UNT UNT Dallas and president designate of the future UNT Dallas, said the addition of these key staff positions will enable the school to plan and execute its transition from a branch campus of UNT Denton to the first public university in Dallas.

“The hires we’ve made will provide leadership over critical areas of our infrastructure,” Price said. “They will also be responsible for working with our colleagues in Denton to ensure a smooth transition to independence. We are making this investment now to prepare for the future when we anticipate large numbers of students choosing UNT Dallas for their undergraduate educations.”

The UNT Dallas is also in the process of interviewing candidates to fill 10 new faculty positions.

The UNT UNT Dallas operates under the authority of the University of North Texas in Denton, the state’s fourth largest university, and is a component institution of the University of North Texas System. The Campus currently offers junior-, senior- and graduate-level courses leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The Campus plans to become freestanding by 2010 and will be named UNT Dallas, the city’s first and only public university.
