UNT UNT Dallas Inducts First National Honor Society Members

DALLAS – The University of North Texas UNT Dallas held a formal ceremony April 24 to inaugurate its new Tau Sigma National Honor Society. Thirty-three students were inducted into the Honor Society in front of family and friends at the UNT Dallas.

Before the students were inducted, John Daniels, the school’s student activities coordinator, had to swear in the society’s officers. The new society’s president, graduate student Tanisha Bell, then presided over the induction ceremony. Bell is the daughter of Norman and Brenda Bell of Desoto. She is in the educational administration program.

The honor society is for students that have transferred from one institution to another and recognizes the academic achievement of these transfer students. Fifty-nine other UNT Dallas students made the honor society.

UNT Dallas is currently a satellite campus of UNT in Denton, but it is in the process of forming as an independent university. The UNT System plans to open UNT Dallas in 2010.

The UNT UNT Dallas operates under the authority of the University of North Texas in Denton, the state’s fourth largest university, and is a component institution of the University of North Texas System. The Campus currently offers junior-, senior- and graduate-level courses leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The Campus plans to become freestanding by 2010 and will be named UNT Dallas, the city’s first and only public university.
