  • Some UNT programs might have earlier deadlines.
  • Students who submit applications after these dates, if accepted, will have to register during the late registration period and pay a late registration fee.
  • For general application, we recommend you apply at least two months before the semester of enrollment.

How to apply

1 Submit online application at ApplyTexas by the deadline.

The application fee is $50 (fee increases to $60 for applications for Fall 2010 and after). Late applications will be accepted but a $25 late fee will be assessed during late registration for course enrollment.

2 Request official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended.

Contact  the registrar’s office at each institution. Most institutions will send transcripts directly to us.

The transcripts must show you have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and earned the required grade point:

GPA requirement for UNT consideration:
a 2.8 GPA or higher on all undergraduate work OR
a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 undergraduate credit hours OR
a 3.4 GPA on work for any completed master’s degree.

Students not meeting GPA requirements may be eligible for admission under certain conditions or if they are seeking a second bachelor’s degree. More information is available in the graduate catalog.

3 Submit standardized test scores (GRE, GMAT, MAT, etc.) to us.

Request your score to be sent directly to UNT when you take the test. The UNT school code for the GRE is 6481.

Test requirements are program specific. Some programs will provisionally admit students who have not yet completed standardized tests.

Test scores can take up to four weeks to be sent and received by UNT.

4 Submit any additional degree-specific admissions requirements directly to the department offering the degree.

These may include personal statements, letters of reference, entrance examinations, interviews, auditions, portfolios or other program-related material.

To be admitted for teacher certification or a graduate academic certificate, or to enroll as a non-degree graduate student, follow Steps 1 and 2.

Apply as a non-degree student if you are only taking courses to improve your knowledge. Non-degree students may change to degree-seeking, although course credits might not transfer to your degree program. As a non-degree student, you may not be eligible for financial aid.

To be admitted for a second bachelor’s degree, submit a second bachelor’s degree application and all official transcripts.
