Alcoa?s Tennessee Operations has taken the traditional employee ?suggestion box? to a whole new level. The company encourages employees to make suggestions on how to improve operation within the plant, and with every suggestion, Alcoa contributes $5 to a ?community chest? fund set aside to benefit local charities.
During a recent luncheon to recognize innovative ?above and beyond? projects of Tennessee Operations? employees, a total of $2,500 from the community chest was presented to representatives from RIO Lighthouse Ministry, which provides meals to shut-ins and other people in need; Douglas Cherokee, for its meals on wheels program; and Hope for Today Cancer Support, which provides transportation and free meals for cancer patients.
Local organizations were nominated and selected for funding by Alcoa employees. This year?s selection committee chose to concentrate on programs that provide basic needs, such as food, for our community members.
