Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey

On the last business day of August, the number of job openings in the U.S. was little changed at a series low level of 2.4 million, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. The hires rate was little changed and remained low at 3.1 percent in August. The total separations rate was little changed at 3.3 percent.

Consumer Expenditures Survey (Annual)

October 06, 2009
Average annual expenditures per consumer unit rose 1.7 percent in 2008 following an increase of 2.6 percent in 2007. Increases in spending on housing (1.1 percent) and food (5.1 percent) coupled with decreases in spending for transportation (-1.8 percent) and apparel (-4.3 percent) contributed to the small overall increase in 2008.
