The Department of Defense is proud to offer the Homeowners Assistance Program (HAP) to eligible service members and federal civilian, including non-appropriated fund, employees. The program is authorized by law, and administered by the US Army Corps of Engineers to assist eligible homeowners who face financial loss when selling their primary residence homes in areas where real estate values have declined because of a base closure or realignment announcement.

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) announced it has changed a policy regarding the education of the dependents of Fallen Military members. The new policy states that currently-enrolled students in Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) who are dependents of a Fallen Military Member may continue in DDESS schools without limitation, regardless of their physical residence or upcoming school transition points.

YouTube Post 911 GI Bill


 
On Aug 1, the Post 911 GI Bill becomes effective. This is the most comprehensive extensive education assistance program since it was created in 1944. If you serve a total of 90 days active duty service, you may be eligible - whether active or reserve. You can use your benefit up to 15 years after your service.  See the Video...

All approved training must be offered by an Institute of Higher Learning.

Construction on the Installation Management Command campus at Fort Sam Houston is raising the dust with four buildings under complete renovation, one getting an addition, two being built from the ground up, and 2,400 people moving into new offices during the next two years.

Fort Sam Houston, known colloquially as "Fort Sam", is named for the first President of the Republic of Texas. The installation's missions include serving as the command headquarters for the Fifth U.S. Army (which became U.S. Army North as of October 2006), United States Army South, the Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) headquarters, the AMEDD Center and School, the Fifth Recruiting Brigade, 12th ROTC Brigade, U.S. Navy Regional Recruiting, the San Antonio Military Entrance and Processing Station, and the U.S. Naval School of Health Sciences, Bethesda Detachment.

That’s a wrap! …until the next show. The U.S. Army Soldier Show, on the road since the April 24th show at their home garrison, Fort Belvoir, Va., “just completed their first show of literally, the second half of their tour in downtown San Antonio, just off base from what will become our new home garrison at Fort Sam Houston, Texas,” Capt. Gabriel Granados, Army Entertainment Detachment commander said.
