The Committee on Women in Science, Engineering, and Medicine (CWSEM) is a standing committee of the National Research Council (NRC). Its mandate is to coordinate, monitor, and advocate action to increase the participation of women in science, engineering, and medicine. The standing Committee on Women in Science, Engineering, and Medicine (CWSEM) convened a workshop to examine career transitions from science and engineering to entrepreneurship in the lives of women professionals and to identify specific skill sets necessary for them to become successful in the business world. The workshop featured invited presentations and discussion that gave a broad overview of the status of women in entrepreneurship, with a specific focus on identifying knowledge gaps in women’s skills and experiences crucial to future success in business and critical for achieving leadership positions in entrepreneurial organizations.
