The AM Take

The Longines Silver Arrow is a watch designed to be worn by a man with real style. It fits less the part of a daily wear/ weekend watch and more the part of a workplace accessory to those who don three-piece suits, suspenders and wingtips. It borrows its name from a vintage Longines model from the mid-1950s -- an authentic Mad Men timepiece, and the styling is much the same.

Uniqueness

A measure of the distinctiveness that the watch lends its wearer
AskMen.com score: 82

It is difficult to find a vintage-inspired, modern-day watch with as much credibility as the Longines Silver Arrow. Most throwback watches are attempts to capitalize on a brand’s previous successes; this is not the case with the Silver Arrow. In fact, this year’s watch is even better looking than the one released in 1955. It features much of the same design traits: the short hands, “mini” markers and “Silver Arrow” written in cursive above six o’clock.

Durability

A measure of the watch's likely life span, in terms of both style and quality
AskMen.com score: 92

With timeless vintage looks, the Longines Silver Arrow is in no danger of going out of style. Mechanically speaking, it is just as solid. It features the very high-grade ETA 2892 movement -- the very same that is used in a host of much more expensive timepieces. The case is made of stainless steel and plated in silver. Retail for this retro piece is only $1,500, which we consider to be a tremendous value. If you're looking for a very stylish and very cool dress watch, you can’t do much better than the Longines Silver Arrow.

i like this watch myself and it has a good eta aka swatch corp. movement at its heart but as to the poster saying big watches are out,...well read again. according to the swiss watch journal, the two big swiss watch shows of 2009 in geneva and basel produced some clear trends:

* large (and ever larger) cases are more popular than ever
* exposed dials revealing the mechanical works are in vogue
* ceramic materials are in demand
* limited edition models are popular
* rose gold and white gold are red hot
