- General Position Description: Responsible to the Lead Ranger to assist in the operation and maintenance of the state park. Duties include cleaning, maintenance and repairs to facilities, buildings, equipment, vehicles and grounds. Operates various types of equipment to include mowers, trimmers, power tools, tractors, vehicles and other equipment as needed. Performs general visitor assistance. Provides visitor information concerning park rules and regulations. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Working Conditions: (1) 10 to 40 hour workweek with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturday, Sunday and holidays; (2) Must be able to adjust to changing schedules; (3) Outdoor work in all types of weather; (4) Must conform to agency work rules, safety program and dress and grooming standards; (5) High visitation public park with overnight camping; (6) Non-smoking work environment in State buildings and vehicles.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Graduation from High School or GED.
- Experience: Two years experience in areas such as general grounds maintenance, facilities maintenance or equipment maintenance. Note: Experience may have occurred concurrently. Preferred Experience: Working with the public.
- License/Certifications: Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid Class "C" Texas driver's license. Note: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.
- Selection Criteria:
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (1) Knowledge of general facility, building and grounds repair and cleaning techniques; (2) Knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques; (3) Skill in basic math; (4) Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; (5) Ability to safely and effectively operate hand and power tools and mechanical equipment; (6) Ability to use a personal computer and prepare reports and forms; (7) Ability to perform customer service in a courteous and professional manner; (8) Ability to make sound independent decisions without continual supervision; (9) Ability to conduct activities in accordance with agency and park safety programs, work rules and performance standards.
