The proliferation of child predators using the Internet to target young victims has become a national crisis. A study shows one in seven children will be solicited for sex online in the next year.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is urging all parents and teachers to realize the risks our children face online, and take steps to help ensure their children’s safety.

iKeepSafe Internet Safety

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today joined with the Texas Cable Association and the Internet Keep Safe Coalition to launch a new video that teaches children and parents about online safety. For the next three to four months, cable service providers will make Attorney General Abbott’s Internet safety video available to their subscribers through on-demand cable services across Texas. Watch a Cyber Safety Town Hall Meeting

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and top investigators from his Cyber Crimes Unit are spreading the message of online safety to children and parents through a series of Cyber Safety Town Hall meetings. The interactive presentation allow parents to hear straight talk about the risks of online child predators and the steps they can take to protect their children. Internet Safety Video for Parents

How do Internet predators target your children? What techniques do they use? What can you do to stop them? Internet Chase Video

So why are some teens so trusting of people they meet online? For many students there is a sense that what happens online can't hurt them. Unfortunately, we are finding that many teens are posting personal information in chat rooms and on social networking sites making them easy prey for child predators. In this video, provided from the i-Safe curicculum, you can see how what happens when one student finds out the hard way that you can't trust what people tell you online.
