  History of Freeport

Freeport has long been known for the many popular water attractions that we have to offer. Linked to the Gulf of Mexico, the Old Brazos River flows through the center of the City, ending at the beautiful municipal park. The City of Freeport has a wide variety of churches, and housing to fit every need. We have many quaint shops offering collectibles and antiques.

Brazosport Memorial Hospital, A state of the art medical facility,  is located in a nearby city, just a few short miles. Medical professionals are available to fill any need. Freeport is home of a new medical clinic (Brazosport Medical Center) offering a variety of services to any person requiring medical attention.

We are proud of our outstanding/award winning school district (Brazosport Independent School District). Governor George W. Bush recognized Brazosport High School (located in Freeport) for their outstanding scholastic achievements by personally attending graduation ceremonies and handing out diplomas in May 1999.  Our visitors and residents may attend the Brazosport College to broaden their knowledge or visit the Center for the Arts to broaden their horizons.  Freeport has a wide variety of housing to accommodate families with varied income levels.

After a full day of inshore or offshore fishing, beach combing, water skiing, shopping, bird watching, or enjoying a host of many water sports that are available, visit one of our many great restaurants to top off your day and wind down your evening. Our restaurants offer everything from award winning seafood, to authentic Mexican food, to down-home BBQ, just to name a few.

Port Freeport located on the Gulf of Mexico, came into being more than 100 years ago when the first jetty system was built in Freeport, Texas. Since that time, the Port has become one of the fastest growing ports on the entire Gulf Coast, and we are currently ranked as the 16th largest port in the United States in terms of tonnage.

Once you are ready to retire for the evening, visit any one of our beautiful bed and breakfast establishments or our many hotel/motels.
