TRACK Pre-Login Technical Requirements
      ... as easy as 1 – 2 – 3

The University of Texas System is pleased to provide you with TRACK and TRACKPlus at no cost. We believe it will be helpful as you as you prepare for the 11th grade TAKS test. Getting started the first time is easy if you follow the steps listed below. When you return to use TRACK in the future you’ll simply login with your username and password.

Even if you've been to TRACK in the past, you still need to create a new account. In order to preserve user security, we do not keep any user passwords--and thus we had no way to move your old TRACK account to the new TRACK system. But setting up a new account is just as easy as it was in the past--and once you're logged in, every user (not just students) have access to all tests and tutorials immediately (no longer a need to enroll in the TRACK course).

First time set-up

step one In order to use TRACK, certain downloadable software plug-ins are required. These plug-ins are standard for most multimedia applications today, and they are easy to install. (These may already exist on your computer.) The browser checker will guide you through the download process and will ensure that your computer is ready to view all of the TRACK elements. Once your computer passes the browser checker, you should not have any technical problems inside TRACK. This process may take up to 45 minutes, but it is a one-time set-up for each computer. Once you complete the browser check, you'll be on TRACK.

As noted below, Windows 2000 is the best version to use for TRACK. While you may be able to access TRACK with Windows 98, you may experience difficulties.

If you have questions after thoroughly reading these instructions, please email us or call 1-800-839-7637.

You may skip ahead to the browser checker if you wish, or continue reading below.

Internet Connection
You will need a reliable connection to the Internet to access TRACK. Security firewalls may block some course content, such as streaming media. Accommodations for access can usually be arranged if you contact your network administrator.

Operating System and Browsers
To provide higher quality and more reliable content we support the following Operating Systems and browsers. Please ensure that you are connecting to TRACK using one of the combinations below.

PC Internet Explorer Netscape Mozilla
Windows 2000 6.x 7.x
Windows XP 6.x 7.x 1.x

Macintosh Safari Netscape Mozilla
Mac OS X 1.2+ 7.x 1.x

A note for users of AOL, Prodigy, Juno, and MSN...
America Online, Prodigy, Juno, MSN and other Internet Service Providers (ISPs), provide their own internal and proprietary web browsers. These browsers are typically customized older versions of Internet Explorer (IE) and may cause problems with TRACK. We strongly recommend downloading the newest version of Mozilla Firefox, Netscape or Internet Explorer before continuing - both are free and should only take a couple of minutes to install.

When using a computer at a school, library or other public place please ask for assistance before installing software.

Browser Settings and Plug-ins
We'll need to check your operating system, browser and plug-ins. You don't need to do anything. We'll ensure you have an operating system/browser combination and the necessary plug-ins.

If you are using a computer at a school, library or other public place, we encourage you to ask for assistance if you need to install or update any software.

Note: Some programs called "Pop-Up Blockers" can keep parts of TRACK from working correctly. If your computer has one of these programs installed, you should turn it off or disable it before continuing.
