Community Services Block Grant

Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funds eligible entities for the delivery of services to very low income Texas residents in all 254 counties. These funds support a variety of direct services in addition to helping maintain the core administrative elements of these local organizations. For FY 2008, the state received $31.3 million in CSBG funding.

CSBG funding is not competitive. Eligible entities are designated by the Governor to provide a broad range of services designed to eliminate poverty and foster self-sufficiency and must provide these services in a geographic area not served by another eligible entity.

The City of Lubbock's Community Services Blaock Grant in part provides funding to South Plains Association of Governments for their Area Aging Agency and for the Information and Referral Directory as well as the 2-1-1 services for this area.
