Literacy Lubbock

Our Mission
The mission of the Literacy Lubbock is to promote empowerment of adults and families to change their lives through literacy by developing, conducting, and supporting literacy programs for Lubbock area residents.

Our Services
The Literacy Lubbock is a non-profit education and human services organization. Classes and tutoring offered by Literacy Lubbock, free of charge, are English as a second language (ESL); basic reading, writing, and math; preparation for GED, ASVAB and ACCUPLACER; and reading and writing for learning challenges such as dyslexia. Classes and tutoring are offered days and evenings at Patterson, Godeke, Groves, and Mahon Libraries. By carefully matching trained literacy volunteers with new and ongoing students, the Literacy Lubbock is able to provide personalized study and training for interested individuals in a very cost efficient manner.

The Literacy Lubbock office, housed on the second floor of Mahon Library, and its Reading Hotline (806-775-3636) are the essential points of literacy education and program referral in the Lubbock area. The office, donated by the City of Lubbock, houses the Executive Director, Director of Volunteer Programs, Resource and Development Director and Office Manager.
