It's not TxDOT's fault. Federal funding comes from a Federal Transportation Funding Bill. The current bill (SAFETEA-LU) which was due to expire September 2009. . . The legislature was too busy worrying about how to control people's lives with health care reform and other nonsense that they failed to properly renew or reauthorize a transportation ... But yes it isn't the best idea to depend on the federal government for money so we should look into alternative sources of income for transportation projects.

Wade's right. You don't need to return your plates when you move out of state, however, the number on that plate is tied to your name so you don't want to just throw it in the trash. Our plates are recyclable, so you can check with your local county tax office to see if you can drop the plates off there, or you can deface the plate with a permanent... Read More marker and drop it off at a recycling center that accepts our plates (not all do so you will have to call ahead to make sure). Or you can keep them as a reminder of the great state of Texas!
