Zilker Park "Great Lawn" Status
The annual Austin City Limits Festival occurred on October 2nd - 4th, 2009. This is the first special event held on the Zilker Park Great Lawn since the Austin Parks Foundation and C3 Presents project completion.


Portion of the Hike and Bike Trail closed due to erosion
The Hike and Bike Trail will be closed along Barton Creek, South of the Barton Spring Bridge and on the East side of the creek due to trail erosion concerns associated with the recent rains. Trail user will be routed on street level along Robert E. Lee Road.


Landmark Summit Promotes Urban Parks as Catalyst in Creating Healthy, Livable
Parks and Recreation Department Director, Sara Hensley attended the Urban Summit in Washington, DC on Sept. 30, 2009. The cause of healthier, vibrant urban communities in America received a major boost last week when the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) brought together a select group of mayors, administration officials, Congressional leaders, cabinet secretaries, and urban park directors in a landmark summit intended to advance the importance of urban parks in national urban policy and federal legislation.
 


Commute Stations set up on Pfluger Bridge beginning October 1st
The City of Austin’s Bicycle Program enlisted several local bicycle shops to help host “Commute Stations” on the first and third Thursday of each month from October through December, with the first station kicked  off Thursday, October 1st.


Public Meeting - Barton Springs Pool Maintenance

2009 Inside Austin Garden Tour
On Saturday, October 24, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Travis County Master Gardner Association and the Travis County AgriLife Extension Service present the 2009 Inside Austin Garden Tour.


"Drawing the Light" Photo Exhibit
New photo exhibit at the Julia C. Butridge Gallery, 1110 Barton Springs Road opens Friday, October 9th, 6pm.


Zilker Park Great Lawn area impacted for event beginning September 21st
Zilker Park Great Lawn and Lou Neff Road area of Zilker Park will be closed beginning September 21st for Austin City Limits set up. The great lawn areas of Zilker park is scheduled to reopen to the public October 16th.


3rd Annual Dia De Los Muertos Festival
In keeping with tradition, this will be the third year that the Mexican American Cultural Center celebrates el Día de los Muertos.


Arbor Day Celebration, October 24th
This year's Arbor Day celebration will be held on Saturday, October 24th, in conjunction with the "Tree-Wheeling Bicycle Tour", a bicycle, bus and pedestrian tour of more than 50 of Austin's oldest, largest and most revered heritage trees from the City of Austin Bicentennial Registry. This tour includes routes of different lengths and ability which lead to trees on the list.


Elisabet Ney Museum closes for landscape restoration
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department has temporarily closed the Elisabet Ney Museum for restoration and construction to the Elisabet Ney Museum grounds and building.
