New off-premise signs/billboards are no longer permitted in the City or 3.5-mile ETJ (see map of the ETJ). Section 106-10(e)- Registration of all existing billboards (including those on IH 35 that are also registered with TxDOT) will be required with a registration fee of $25.00.

Existing billboards/non conforming signs cannot be enlarged in any way and improvements include changes in the face advertisement only. A billboard whose cost to alter or improve is greater than 60% of the cost of erecting a new sign shall be eliminated and not replaced. See Section 106-7 for additional information concerning non conforming signs.

Directional signs direct persons to a location or activity. Signs must be permanently anchored to the ground, cannot be greater than 12 feet high, and must contain 6-8 panels. Directional signs can be no further than 500 feet from an intersection of major and/or minor arterials or within 500 feet of another directional sign on the same side of the road. Signs may not be located on a tract with an existing one or two family dwelling. Section 106-12.2
