Work on Detention Ponds

The City of DeSoto in cooperation with the Wolf Creek homeowners' association will be working on the two detention ponds within the community.

The first phase consists of pumping all water out of the small pond on the west side of the subdivision. This pond has had 5 feet of standing water in it since it was built. Is has been a nuisance and has attracted many snakes. With nearby homes now constructed, there has been a sense of urgency to convert this pond into a "dry" detention pond, much like what you see all around the city. The area will still serve as a detention pond, however, the low areas, will be filled with dirt and groundcover.

The second phase will include the removal of silt build-up in the larger pond area on the east side of the subdivision near the Cockrell Hill entrance. The upper pond will be pumped dry and the pond will be re-graded to its orginal design.

All areas of work that are disturbed will be returned to its original condition or better.

The work began Friday, July 10th and will take roughly 3 to 4 weeks to complete both phases.
