Benefits
The City of Tomball offers benefits for
regular, full-time employees. These benefits
are designed to offer protection and
security for the present as well as the
future. Health Insurance:
Medical and Dental Coverage through
Blue Cross Blue Shield is provided for
employees at no cost. Dependents may be
covered with a bi-weekly payment subject
to the city’s policy on spouse coverage.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield plan includes
a 24 hour nurse line, disease
management, a wellness program and a
choice between a PPO and an HMO plan.
All employees are covered by workers
compensation for injuries sustained on
the job.
Life Insurance:
The City of Tomball provides a
$10,000 policy on each active full time
employee at no cost to the employee.
Employees may purchase additional
coverage up to 7 times their salary or a
maximum of $500,000. Also, with the
purchase of one of the options on the
additional policy for the employee, they
can purchase Optional Dependent Life
polices for a spouse and/or child(ren).
The spouse coverage may not exceed the
employee’s voluntary policy and the
child policy is for either $5000 or
$10,000. Employee and Spouse voluntary
coverage is priced in age-based blocks
of $10,000.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Unreimbursed Health Care Expenses –
With a flexible spending account the
employee can set aside a portion of each
paycheck to cover unreimbursed medical
expenses on a pre-tax basis. Dependent
Day Care Expenses – Under the flexible
spending account, the employee can set
aside a portion of each paycheck for
dependent day care expenses on a pre-tax
basis for dependent children under the
age of 13 who qualify as IRS dependents
and anyone claimed as a IRS dependent
because of physical or mental inability
to care for himself.
Retirement
The City of Tomball participates in
the Texas Municipal Retirement System.
Employees contribute 7% of their salary
to the program. Upon retirement, the
City of Tomball will match the
employee’s contribution two to one. The
City of Tomball also participates in
Social Security.
Deferred Compensation
The City of Tomball offers an
optional deferred compensation 457 plan
through ICMA-RC in which employees can
contribute a portion of their salary,
before taxes, to a retirement account.
Employees also have the option of
contributing to a Roth IRA through ICMA-RC.
Longevity
All full time employees will receive
$5 per month for each month worked
payable in a lump sum at the end of each
calendar year.
Tuition Reimbursement
The City of Tomball provides
educational assistance to its employees
for additional job related educational
development.
Uniforms
Employees are furnished with uniforms
if required to wear uniforms in the
position for which they were hired.
Employees will receive their uniform
according to each departmental policy.
Vacation
Less than 5 years of service: 10 days
per year
Five years through eleven years of
service: 15 days per year
Twelve years through 19 years of
service: 20 days per year
Twenty years of service: 21 days per
year
Twenty-One years of service: 22 days per
year
Twenty-Two years of service: 23 days per
year
Twenty-three years of service: 24 days
per year
Twenty-Four or more years of service: 25
days per year
Sick Leave
Employees earn 10 days of sick leave
per year.
Holidays
Employees receive 10 paid holidays
per year.
