General Information about the Transfer Station

The Transfer Station is the central receiving and transfer point for solid waste generated by the City of Killeen. Persons authorized to dispose of waste at the facility are:
Citizens and businesses in the City of Killeen
Citizens and businesses in the rural areas (counties)

Please bring your latest utility bill as proof of residency.

8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday

Directions: From Stan Schlueter Loop, follow Hwy 195 south for 3 miles. The turn-off to the transfer staion is located about 1/4 mile south of the Veterans Cemetery. Turn left at the sign to the transfer station and follow the road past the old facility all the way down until you come to the entrance of the transfer station.

RESTRICTIONS
The transfer station must operate in compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Rules and Regulations, and the approved site operating plan. The facility is not permitted to accept hazardous waste or special waste. Special waste is any solid waste that because of quantity, concentration, physical or chemical characteristics or biological properties, requires special handling and disposal to protect human health or the environment.

Special Waste NOT ACCEPTED are:

  • Septic tank pumpings
  • Grease and grit trap waste
  • Medical waste from health care facilities
  • Discarded materials containing asbestos
  • Segregated hazardous waste from small quantity generators
  • Slaughter house waste and dead animals
  • Other waste classified as special waste by the Texas Natural Resource Conservation

Cash, local bank checks and credit cards accepted

Citizens of Killeen can dispose of the up to 300 pounds per calendar month of excess garbage. Weight in excess of 300 pounds shall be assessed a disposal fee of $2.57 per 100 pounds which is the minimum fee. The following items will be accepted when presenting a current utility bill from the City of Killeen.
Household garbage/rubbish
Yard waste, brush grass clippings, and leaves
Furniture items such as chairs, couches, bed frames, mattresses
Recyclable materials identified elsewhere in this pamphlet
Appliances such as stoves, hot water heaters, washers, and dryers
Special provisions apply to air conditioning units and refrigerators.

Citizens and Businesses of Rural Areas (Counties): A disposal fee is charged for all waste that is disposed at this facility. The fee is based on the scale weight of the materials. This fee is subject to change, but is as posted on the sign at the scale.

Commercial Businesses in Killeen: A disposal fee is charged for all waste that is disposed at this facility. The fee is based on the scale weight of the materials. This fee is subject to change, but is as posted on the sign at the scale.

Recycling Drop-off and Used Oil Collection Site: The recycling drop-off point is presently closed, due to illegal dumping issues. We will reopen at a later date. In the meantime, please refer to our Recycling Center in downtown Killeen.  

 

 

 

Surcharge for Unsecured Loads: Vehicles hauling waste to this site must be enclosed or provided with a tarpaulin, net, or other means to secure the load to prevent blowing litter or spillage. A surcharge will be assessed for unsecured loads.

Nonresidents:
Charges for dumping garbage, rubbish or special collection material by nonresidents is calculated by weight as determined by the on-site scales at a rate of $51.40 per ton ($2.57 per 100 pounds).
