What is Twitter?

"Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

"Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. The sender can restrict delivery to those in his or her circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, SMS, RSS, email or through an application such as Twitterrific or Facebook ..."  From WikiPedia: "Twitter" 10/16/2008.

How is Killeen using Twitter?

Killeen has set up Twitter accounts to alert followers about breaking news, announcements, events and programs sponsored by the City. By following other government agencies and municipalities, we provide an additional linking service for you that helps you find other  government entities of interest.

Our Twitter accounts do not follow individuals or businesses in order to avoid any implied impressions of endorsements or support.

The Twitter accounts are used on a time available basis and operated by the Information Technology department. No immediate information regarding other department practices is available via these accounts.
