The Role of the Texas Legislature

The Texas legislature has primary responsibility for redistricting state senate, state house, U.S. Congressional, and State Board of Education districts after each decennial census and also has the primary role in making changes to state judicial districts.

Image of a star; new news item August 4, 2006 - The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas issued its opinion, order, and map (PLAN01438C) in the Texas Congressional redistricting case, LULAC et al. v. Perry et al.

Image of a star; new news item June 29, 2006 - The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas issued an order in the LULAC v. Perry case remanded from the United States Supreme Court. Parties are to file their remedial proposals by July 14, 2006, with responses due July 21, 2006. Oral argument is set for 9 a.m. on August 3, 2006 in Austin at the Homer Thornberry Federal Building.
