New Weatherization Program to Help Homeowners Save Energy and Money

The City of Arlington has been awarded a $2 million federal grant to help qualifying families reduce energy costs and maintain safer, healthier living conditions.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, the City of Arlington is using these federal dollars to launch its new Weatherization Assistance Program.

According to David Zappasodi, the Assistant Director of the Community Services Department, the City is planning to provide residential weatherization services to approximately 250 households.

“The Weatherization Assistance program is the City’s core program for delivering energy efficiency and home improvement services to low-income households,” he said. “The City of Arlington will provide weatherization assistance at no cost to qualified residents. We can install up to $6,500 in weatherization improvements per household.”

After Weatherization Assistance Program rehabilitation work is completed, households could see an average savings of 21 percent annually on energy bills.
