The General Services division is made up of four divisions: Facilities Maintenance, Custodial Services, Printing Services and Purchasing. It is the mission of General Services to provide exemplary service to our customers for safe, healthy environments and to facilitate procurement that provides the best value for the city.
The Purchasing division collaborates State and Local laws as well as procedures in order to provide an effective and consistent means of procurement that is in compliance with all laws and regulations. Purchasing provides staff, management and city Council the tools to make decisions for the behalf of the citizens to procure supplies and services that will serve as the best value to the City. Purchasing facilitates fair and open competition so that responsible bidders are given the opportunity to compete for the City’s business. Major functions of the division: Bid/RFP/RFQ, Education / Training for Vendors, Education / Training for Staff, Surplus Property Disposal (Auction).
Facilities Maintenance is responsible for maintaining over 200 city facilities, of which 34 are active buildings. The staff must respond in a timely manner to all calls ranging from general repair and maintenance to more specific needs such as HVAC, carpentry, painting, plumbing, pest control, alarm monitoring, and elevator maintenance. The Facilities Maintenance division also assists departments with minor capital improvement projects such as remodeling facilities and/or constructing new facilities. Staff is tasked with developing and facilitating a consolidated HVAC and Building Maintenance budget for citywide needs each fiscal year as well as provide for preventative maintenance plans / service for city facilities.
Custodial Services is responsible for providing a clean, safe and healthy environment for city employees and citizens for over 141,000 square feet of city facilities (26 buildings). The staff must follow stringent schedules and procedures in order to fulfill the needs of all buildings so all citizens can enjoy the city facilities as they open each day. The custodial staff members are very dedicated, reliable individuals who train consistently in the areas of safety and chemical usage in an effort to maintain healthy and safe facilities and to enhance the appearance of city buildings.
The printing staff strives to provide quality printing in a timely manner, using the most cost-effective means of doing so. Printing Services is responsible for all print orders needed by all forty-four (44) departments in the city. Items printed by this division include, but are not limited to, utility bill inserts, posters, police ticket books, award-winning budget books, flyers, accounting forms, “Guide to City Services” brochures and training brochures. The division processed over 12,000,000 impressions in 2007 and keeps expanding their services each year.
