Austin Nature Preserves
The Preserves are sanctuaries for native plants, native animals and
unique natural features. They provide educational and scientific opportunities for the people of Austin.

The City of Austin operates two types of preserves:

The Parks and Recreation Department operates and maintains the Central and Eastern Preserves. Many of these preserves are open to the public but some are available only by reservation for educational groups. Please call (512) 327-7723 or e-mail for any addition information or questions. Many volunteer opportunities are available.

Managed by the Water Utility the Balcones Canyonlands Preserves are very special preserves that conserve endangered species, their habitat and our natural heritage. If you wish to volunteer or have questions about the Balcones Canyonlands Preserves, call (512) 263-6437 or email us at the BCP office.
