Water Department

About Us

The Water Utilities Department is responsible for managing the city's water collection, water treatment, and wastewater removal.

Canadian River Municipal Water Authority supplies approximately eighty percent of Lubbock’s water. This water comes from Lake Meredith located North of Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle, and well-fields located in Roberts County. This well-field will not only increase the amount of water available to the city but will also improve the quality of Lubbock’s drinking water. It flows downhill by gravity through 160 miles of pipes called “aqueducts.” The water is then stored in two large reservoirs until it can be treated.

Twenty percent of Lubbock’s water supply is groundwater. Groundwater is percolated water stored in aquifers -- large underground areas of soil and rock saturated with water. We get this water from wells primarily located in Bailey County, 8 miles East of Muleshoe.
