As part of his no tolerance for abuse plan, TYC Acting Executive Director Ed Owens announced today a hotline number people can call to report allegations of mistreatment of youth in TYC. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice Command Center has agreed to operate and man the 24-hour reporting line. The toll-free number is 866-477-8354. It is also a free call for youth in TYC using the phones on their dorms.
People can report non-emergency allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of TYC youth by email if they chose at tyc.irc@tyc.state.tx.us. The email address is monitored Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
“I want to make clear that we will not tolerate abuse of any youth in TYC,” said Acting Executive Director Ed Owens. “This hotline is another tool for people to report suspected abuse. I don’t care how it gets reported, just that it gets reported. We want to know what is happening so we can fix it and deal with those who would try to hurt our kids.”
The Command Center will keep information as confidential as possible and callers can remain anonymous if desired.
